Where Swedenborg wrote about the brain being composed of distinct functional units [cerebellula] directly related to thought and imagination, contemporary Neuroscientists suggest that all behaviour is caused by electrochemical brain activity including the generation of magnetic fields. For both theories, the brain, as a physical substrate, relates directly to the [angelic] mind, and then all its experiences exist as correlates of complex but determined sequences of localised events.
In his early scientific work Swedenborg described a new theory of tremulations, where he suggests that life consists of waves or tremors of the nerves. And, after his epiphany, with the same belief he would physically induce a state of hypnogagia so as to be fully conscious in his circumnavigations of the Spiritual World.
Similarly, if neural activity is electrochemical, brain function can also be modified through the introduction of specific chemicals (drugs), by altering the brain’s electromagnetic environment through induction, or through resonant entrainment techniques.
Thus if all experiences might exist as correlates of complex but determined sequences of frequencies, then by creating specific magnetic fields, some specific behaviours might be replicated in any brain, including so called anomalous experiences.
In the spirit of esoteric research, the recent xxxxx_brain writing experiments breakthrough used a very weak field of 450 nanoTeslas (nT) pulsed from close range to the temporal lobes in an attempt to raise one of Emmanuel Swedenborg's Angel communicants. Calculations had been made [by Prof. Friedrich Wagner, Department of Physics, University of Kiel] to calibrate the strength of the field as it passes through skin and bone to directly affect the temporal lobes. The signal is pulsed, 3ms every 3 seconds, superimposing these weak fields onto any stronger more continuous background fields so its information is delivered in scheduled transmissions. The effects of such stimulation are not instantaneous but might seem to result from constant exposure to these fields over a prolonged time period.
