etruscan computing

tortured computers:

from: http://blog.urbanomic.com/cyclon/archives/2009/04/index.html

The Etruscan torture has been described as chaining the living person to a rotting corpse, face to face and limb to limb until the living person perishes by the decay of the corpse. Only when the living person was blackened by putrefaction, the Etruscan robbers freed the living, now a corpse, from the chains. A metaphysical torture and a model for the intelligible ontology, Aristotle suggests that the relation between the body, the soul (psyche) and the intellect (nous) as the triad of his ontology can be explained as follows: ‘their bodies [those who have fallen into the hands of the Etruscans], the living with the dead, were bound so exactly as possible one against another: so our souls, tied together with our bodies as the living fixed upon the dead.’ (Cicero quoting Aristotle in Hortensius).

(machines linked w. cross-cable)

machine 1

root@ubuntu:~# ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1

root@ubuntu:~# cat /dev/mem | netcat 192.168.1.2 666

machine 2

root@jonnix:~# ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2

root@jonnix:~# netcat -l -p 666 | tee /dev/dsp - > /dev/mem &

execute before executing machine 1 2nd command

sound for 1 minute from machine 2 then a) machine 2 terminal crashed, machine 1 terminal defaulted to root@ubuntu:~#

machine 2 crash - all processes (including terminal, X-server/screen …) are in memory. So corrupting this…

for aesthetic/durational - slow down or stop/intermittently crashing, implement etruscan torture on a process level (MH)

the sound from machine 2 is it listening . /dev/dsp whats happening in machine 1? if so how to develop so both play each other

machine 1 is appears to be listening but

cat /dev/mem | netcat 192.168.1.1 666

seems not to be running on machine 2

implementation of Etruscan developed out of Oskoff Lovich's (strangely Etruscan in itself) code-brut (ap/xxxxx) inspired noish transcode command cat /dev/mem » /dev/dsp

DEC 2011: for machines running < kernel 2.6.24

machine 1 = [1] machine 2 = [2]

In order of execution:

  • 1. [1] ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1
  • 2. [2] ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2
  • 3. [1] netcat -l 667 | tee /dev/dsp - > /dev/mem &
  • 4. [2] netcat -l 666 | tee /dev/dsp - > /dev/mem &
  • 5. [2] cat /dev/mem | netcat 192.168.1.1 667
  • 6. [1] cat /dev/mem | netcat 192.168.1.2 666

18 May 2012 ( at Plano B, Rio de Janeiro)

/dev/dsp workaround for kernel 2.6.22+ - replace /dev/dsp with | aplay -r **000 (68000, 44100, 22500 …)

& as /dev/mem protected in 2.6.22+ after 1mb, duration extended by reducing aplay rate to eg.22500 hz
